Toyota wants to defend its market leadership in pickups with the new Hilux and continue to expand.
23,1 percent market share in Europe. What is pure utopia for Toyota's range of passenger cars since Auris, Avensis and Co. can no longer build on the once-high sales figures of their established predecessors, shakes the Japanese manufacturer loose in the pick-up segment.
Because in its segment of the Toyota Hilux is just clear with this share market leader. We consult the set theory and translate the cars sold in 34.000 in the year 2015. That should be up to 40.000 in the future. And despite a growing crowd of competitors from Mercedes and Renault (both alliance partners develop a pickup based on the Nissan Navara), the Fiat Fullback based on the Mitsubishi L200 and the facelifted VW Amarok.
The latter comes with three-liter diesel as a six-cylinder. This displacement size, although distributed on four pots, there was previously also for some Hilux versions, next to a 2,5 liter four-cylinder. This is the end of the eighth generation, all Hilux versions, whether single cab with two seats, extra cab for four or double cab for five passengers, whether one or two driven axles. In future, an 2,4 liter of large four-cylinder turbo diesel with 110 kW / 150 PS will always be nailing under the new bonnet.
The spans now over a much more concise front end. The longer overhang with the steep radiator grille give the Hilux a much more masculine appearance. The profile with the quieter metal surfaces also looks more modern. Inside, a new cockpit with large touch screen (as an option) moves in. Unfortunately, but also the antiquated acting air vents from the car brother Auris.
No matter, a livestock such as the Hilux should win no beauty prices, but everywhere stand his man. As before, the Toyota builds on a ladder frame, which should now be even stiffer. An almost eleven centimeters wider loading area and larger compression and suspension travel for better off-road capability continue to recommend the Hilux as a vehicle for foresters, builders and hut owners. For them, a maximum towing capacity of 3,2 tons is an important currency.
Currently, the predecessor of the new Toyota Hilux costs from 22.134 Euro for the single cabin with two seats and as many powered wheels. The successor is likely to move in approximately the same price range, if he comes in the course of the year to the German Toyota dealers. Exact information about the transfer fee is currently not available.
