News: VW Passat GTE - The economical plug connection

The abbreviation GTE has been used since last year Volkswagen for models with plug-in hybrid. After the Golf, the Passat now also has a socket connection. 44.250 euros are due for the mid-size sedan, the estate variant starts from 45.250 euros.

In both cases, the Passat GTE is powered by a 1,4-liter turbo gasoline engine with 115 kW / 156 hp and an electric motor with 85 kW / 115 hp. This results in a system output of 160 kW / 219 hp. enough for a top speed of 225 km / h. Measured according to the norm, the partially electrified Passat consumes an average of just 1,6 liters per 100 kilometers, which means the first 100 kilometers because of the zero-emission electricity kilometer. The electrical range is up to 50 kilometers. In combination with the gasoline engine, the VW Passat GTE is said to have a range of 50 kilometers with a fully filled 1.114 liter tank and a charged battery.

The exterior of the GTE versions can be recognized by a blue cross bar in the radiator grille. In the interior, the economical middle class differs through drive-specific functions and displays in the instrument cluster.

After the Golf, the Passat is the second model with VW plug-in hybrid drive. However, the economical alternative is more expensive than the conventional models. A comparable Passat with a pure petrol engine and 162 kW / 220 hp costs around € 37.430, almost € 7.000 less than the GTE.
