News: VW Phaeton - But no electric future

The planned Elektro-Phaeton from VW there probably won't be. Brand boss Herbert Diess stopped the project, reports “Manage Magazin”. The car would have been too expensive. The manager is also quoted as saying that a high-priced limousine is not the right model to symbolize the future of a mass brand like VW.

Six months ago, VW announced that it wanted to bring a new generation of the luxury sedan onto the market - exclusively with an electric drive. The group did not name a specific launch date. VW struggled for a long time with the decision how to continue with the Phaeton built since 2002. The usual production time has been extended from around eight to 13 years to date. At the end of March, the final vehicle is apparently being built in Dresden.
