Ford brings electric motor to retrofit - Crate motor

Converting conventional vehicles to electric drives is very popular in the USA. Ford now has the peating offer.  

Ford wants to offer electric motors for retrofitting in older cars in the future. The "Crate engine“Now on the Tuning fair SEMA in Las Vegas celebrated, on board an F-100 vintage pick-up. The unit is available on the US market for the equivalent of around 3.400 euros.  

The technology of the electric motor comes in the main from Ford's electric crossover Mustang Mach-E. The permanent synchronous engine has an output of 206 kW / 280 hp and provides a torque of 430 Nm. The target group for the retrofit solution are primarily tuners and classic car fans who want to equip older cars with emission-free drives. Ford does not initially offer batteries or other e-car components, but plans to expand its range of accessories in the future.

Ford is the first major car manufacturer to officially offer its electric motors as individual parts on the end customer market. In the USA there is a brisk demand for e-car components among tuners and hobbyists. So far, it has mainly been served by cannibalizing accident or defective vehicles.
