Germany premiere on the legendary Nürburgring. The most demanding racetrack in the world and the 24 Hours Race (28 - 29 May 2016) form the perfect backdrop for the premiere of the new Nissan GT-R Nismo of model year 2017. Also perfect because it is precisely this Nordschleife that the Japanese measure themselves against and that the talents of the Japanese athlete, affectionately known as Godzilla, continue to refine.
Like the standard GT-R, the Nismo top model also has a newly made-up front section with a new bumper. Nissan calls the distinctive shape of the radiator grille with its dark chrome finish "V-Motion".
In contrast to the normal variant of the super sportsman, the front bumper of the GT-R Nismo is made of carbon fiber to achieve an ideal level of rigidity. The redesigned front spoiler lips optimize the air flow around the vehicle, direct the air around the wheel arches and produce a high level of downforce, which in turn ensures increased high-speed stability. Overall, the downforce generated by the GT-R Nismo thanks to the modifications is as high as any other production model in the history of the Japanese automaker.
Also inside the new Nismo model benefits from the improvements that Nissan has already implemented in the facelift of the GT-R, which was presented at the New York Auto Show in March 2016. In terms of ambience and appearance, the vehicle reaches a new level; Dashboard, steering wheel and center armrest are redesigned and covered with high-quality Alcantara leather. The layout of the carbon fiber center console has also been improved and simplified: The integration of audio and navigation control has reduced the number of buttons from 27 to eleven. The eight-inch touchscreen has larger icons, making it easier to use and the new menu controls. The driver can thus select the functions without having to touch the screen - a feature that pays off especially at higher speeds. Exclusively reserved for the GT-R Nismo are the leather-covered carbon bucket seats by Recaro with red Alcantara inserts.
The significantly strengthened body structure of the normal GT-R gives even the new Nismo top model even better handling characteristics - mainly because it allows modifications to shock absorbers, springs and stabilizers, which optimize the handling together with the increased downforce. This can be seen from the fact that both the slalom times and the curve characteristics have improved by almost two percent each. The active DampTronic suspension from Bilstein, which is standard in the standard GT-R, has special Nismo-modified shock absorbers in the GT-R Nismo, which retain the power of the 441-liter 600-liter twin 3,8 kW -Turbo-V6 even more effective on the road.
The award-winning six-cylinder, internally marked with the abbreviation "VR38DETT", is the result of Nismo know-how collected at many motorsport events around the world. The engine, which is connected to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, owes its power not least to the two turbochargers from the GT3 with larger diameter and higher flow rate. Made entirely by hand, each engine carries the name of its Japanese Takumi master on a small aluminum plaque.
Despite its even more powerful nature, the new GT-R Nismo is at the same time finely balanced than before and has evolved in the course of the revision to a vehicle that makes as much fun on a winding mountain road as on the race track.
"With the GT-R Nismo, the emphasis is clearly on the 'R' and the direct connection to racing," explains Hiroshi Tamura, responsible product specialist for the GT-R Nismo and the GT-R. "Based on the new GT-RWe have made the new Nismo version a more balanced vehicle, with not only improved performance characteristics, but also with a higher premium appearance. It is the result of our uncompromising pursuit of ultimate driving pleasure. "
The Nissan GT-R Nismo 2017 is available in five different exterior finishes. The vehicle is manufactured in Tochigi (Japan), the engines are made by hand in Yokohama (Japan).
