From the acclaimed reboot model, the current Opel Astra has become a transitional solution. With new engines and a slight technical upgrade, he is now to endure the two years until retirement.
About two years before the model change revised Opel the Astra again thoroughly. With more equipment options, modified suspension, and new engines, the compact spans the wait until it switches 2021 to the Peugeot 308 platform.
The most important innovation concerns the engine range, in which three-cylinder engines replace the four-cylinder engines previously used - both engine families still originate from the General Motors era, and engines from the new parent company PSA can only be found in the successor. The three petrol and two diesel engines with a displacement of 1,2 to 1,5 liters and a power range from 77 kW / 105 PS to 107 kW / 145 PS reduce the fuel consumption of the five-door and station wagon in combination with aerodynamic optimizations by up to 19 percent. All engines meet the criteria of the Euro 6d emissions standard.
Matching the new three-cylinders, there are new gearboxes. In the smaller engines, the six gears are switched by hand, the strongest diesel (90 kW / 122 PS) is optionally available with an eight-speed automatic. Unusual: The only automatic option in the gasoline is a continuously variable transmission for the 1,4-liter engine with 107 kW / 145 PS. The suspension should turn out to be more comfortable in the future, for which, among other things, should provide new shock absorbers. Also retuned is the optional sports suspension.
Opel has added to the electronics. So there is a new smaller front camera, which provides the assistance systems with information and now also recognizes pedestrians on the road. The rear camera has also been replaced by a newer model, which should also offer a better resolution. In addition, if desired, a digital speedometer can be used instead of the analogue clock. There are also new extras such as a heated windshield and a new e-call system.
The Astra can be ordered in a few weeks. Prices, the manufacturer does not yet, the current model starts in comparable motorization at just 21.000 Euro.
