Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 - With plug and all-wheel drive

To achieve the strict CO2 targets and reduce fleet consumption, more and more manufacturers are opting for plug-in hybrids. These can drive a few kilometers purely electrically and thus reduce average consumption. And like the Opel Grandland X, there is sometimes an additional feature on top.

Opel is expanding the engine and drive concept of its compact SUV Grandland X with a plug-in hybrid variant, taking the next step in the electrification of its vehicle fleet in addition to the battery-electric version of the Corsa small car. The manufacturer has not yet quoted prices for the Hybrid4 variant. It will celebrate its public premiere at the IAA in September, with the market launch expected in spring 2020.

Thanks to a 13,2 kWh lithium-ion battery, which saves space under the rear seats, a purely electrical range of up to 50 kilometers is possible

The plug-in hybrid system of the Grandland X, like that of its PSA group siblings Peugeot 3008 and Citroen C5 Aircross, consists of a 1,6-liter turbo gasoline engine with 147 kW / 200 PS and two electric motors, each 80 kW / 109 PS Afford. The total output is 221 kW / 300 PS. The Rüsselsheimers give consumption for the Opel SUV with 2,2 liters.

An electric motor transfers its power to the front wheels via an electrified eight-speed automatic. The second electric motor and the differential are integrated in the rear axle. Thanks to a 13,2 kWh lithium-ion battery, which saves space under the rear seats, a purely electrical range of up to 50 kilometers is possible. The electric range is to be increased by up to 10 percent via the recuperation of the braking energy.

The driver can choose between four driving modes: electric, hybrid, all-wheel drive and sport. In hybrid mode, the SUV uses the most efficient drive mode, in all-wheel drive mode the electrified rear axle is activated. This is possible up to a speed of 125 km / h.

The batteries are charged via household sockets, public stations and wall boxes. On a 7,4 kW wall box, it took 110 minutes for the energy storage to be full again. A special mobility service from PSA gives Grandland X Hybrid4 customers a charging pass that allows access to more than 85.000 charging points in Europe.

Over the next 20 months, Opel plans to offer the Zafira Life, Corsa, Vivaro and Mokka X models that have just been launched or are still to come, each with a purely battery-electric version.
