Opel Insignia Sports Tourer - Now he has the greatest

The new generation of Opel Insignia will premiere in early March at the Geneva Motor Show in a double pack. In addition to the already presented limousine variant Grand Sport show the Rüsselsheimer also the Sports Tourer.

The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer has grown to almost five meters

On 4,99 meter, the up to 200 kilogram lighter estate has grown. Thanks to the new proportions, the vehicle looks sturdier than before, firmer on character lines rich metal skin. A striking feature in the side view is a chrome strip running from the A-pillar below the roofline to the C-pillar, which is picked up by the taillights. The LED lights extend in two parts from the C-pillar to the tapered tailgate.

Thanks to the increase in size and the wheelbase lengthened by 9 centimeters, the Insigina can offer passengers and luggage considerably more scope for development than before. So the 10 centimeter over two meters in length grown and also slightly wider trunk with 1.640 liters fits well 100 liters more than before. Thus, the Insignia beats the much smaller Astra Sports Tourer, which was previously the most spacious combination of the flash brand with 1.630 liter.

According to Opel, the loading of the Insignia should be made easier in the future, as the overhang between the bumper and cargo space was reduced. The opening of the tailgate is easier in the future by hand, as an opening and closing by foot command is possible. The opening height of the flap can even be programmed. As before, the boot can optionally be equipped with the Flex Fix rail locking system. The backrest that can be unlocked at the touch of a button can be folded in three parts in the ratio 40: 20: 40.

In the cockpit area, the new Insignia generation presents itself tidily. Striking is the strong horizontal emphasis of the dashboard. In the middle is the frameless touchscreen of the infotainment system. Chrome trim, piano lacquer surfaces and fine leather also provide a noble flair.

The new Insignia Sports Tourer offers special innovations such as the ACC cruise control in combination with a collision prevention system, a head-up display, an active lane-keeping assistant with countersteering function, rear-exit parking assistance, and a new LED matrix light. One such Opel already offers in the new Astra, but here with 16 LED segments, while in the Insignia a variant with 32 segments is used.

On the drive side, Opel promises more efficient engines and some smaller innovations. As before, the Insignia will only be available with turbocharged petrol and diesel engines that deliver between 110 and 250 hp. A new feature is an eight-speed automatic, which will initially only be offered in combination with all-wheel drive. The 4 × 4 drivetrain also features torque vectoring, which allows wheel-selective torque distribution.

Order start for the Sport Tourer is on 17. February 2017. Prices do not yet call the Rüsselsheim, but probably the new edition will be based on the level of its predecessor. Currently costs the insignia station wagon in the basic version just below 26.000 Euro. (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
