In May there were fewer injuries and deaths than a year ago.
In May 2021, 221 people died in one in Germany Road traffic accident. According to the Federal Statistical Office, that was 12 people fewer than in the same month last year, which is also the best May figure since reunification. In addition, fewer people were injured in road traffic. The number of the severely injured fell by 12 percent to 4.700 people, and that of the slightly injured by 8 percent to 20.000.
Since the beginning of the year, the police have registered 830.000 road accidents, 9 percent fewer than in the same period last year. These included around 79.000 accidents with personal injury (-16%). 855 people were killed. This corresponds to a decrease of 17 percent. In the same period last year, 1.035 people died in road traffic. The number of seriously injured people on the road fell by 18 percent to 17.300, the number of slightly injured people fell by 17 percent to 80.200.
