Car bestsellers in Germany - Almost every third new car is an SUV

In many segments, car sales in Germany declined in April. SUVs and SUVs, however, have continued to increase.

In April 2019, most of the leaders in the German car bestseller list were able to maintain their position from the previous month, but in four vehicle segments, there were, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), a change of leadership in the best-selling models.

Among the minis, the Opel Adam, whose production will end these days, was able to recapture the top position from the Fiat 500. As usual, the small cars and the compacts are the Polo and Golf in front - despite significantly lower sales compared to the same month last year. In the middle class, the VW Passat had to give way to the Mercedes C-Class. The front runner in the upper middle class is also a star carrier, the E-Class, which replaced the Audi A6. In return, the Porsche Panamera overtook the Mercedes S-Class in the luxury class.

While sales declined in all of the segments mentioned, SUVs and SUVs continued to grow. Their combined market share has now risen to around 29 percent. Unchanged prove here with T-Roc and Tiguan two VW the top places. In the sports car, the E-Class coupe of Mercedes could maintain its leading position. The same applies to the B-Class mini-vans, while remains at the big vans of the VW Touran's best-selling model. The previous leaders also asserted themselves in the Utilities with VW Transporter and Fiat Ducato in the motorhomes.
