The smart: known as a practical and hip small car for the city. Parking problems are foreign to him. But the fortwo does not really stand out with its sportiness. Bottrop-based refiner Brabus now wants to change that. With 109 PS, the current smart Brabus now wants to be the sportiest vehicle in the segment and relies on turbocharging, a performance sports suspension and many other adaptations to help it get going. The smallest sprout with Swabian roots will be presented at the Beijing Automotive Exhibition and can be ordered from a German dealer from July this year.
The main attribute of the smart Brabus? The driving fun! No standard smart model has ever been as powerful as the current version. Compared to the predecessor, the new version 5 kW and 23 Nm increases and thus performs 109 PS at 5.700 rpm and 170 Nm at 2.000 rpm. That is enough for a sprint from zero to 100 km / h in 9,5 seconds and a top speed of 165 km / h.
Above all, two factors are responsible for the increase in performance: firstly, the boost pressure was increased to two bar and secondly, the air supply to the rear engine was optimized. This is still an in-line three-cylinder with 900 cm³ displacement, which in its weaker version also drives the Renault Twingo - the sister model of the smart.
The French is not available in a sport version for the time being. The Brabus Performance sports suspension is reserved for the smart alone. Compared to the Brabus sports suspension, it is 20 percent tighter, while the stabilizer on the front axle should reduce the tendency to roll by nine percent. For closer contact with the road, the direct steering is now also to offer, which brings a speed-dependent power steering assistance with a variable steering ratio. For example, increased restoring forces have been set especially for the smart Brabus so that the driving behavior is even sportier. In addition, the transmission got a response time up to 40 percent faster and an even shorter gear ratio than the 66kW model. In addition, the 6-speed dual clutch transmission now has a race-start function: apply the brake and accelerator at the same time, let the speed level out, release the brake and off you go.
The bonsai racer is largely unobtrusive in terms of appearance. So the Bottropers installed a rear diffuser in matt gray, which houses tailpipe trims in chrome look, from which a sonorous, smoky three-cylinder sound is said to emanate. In addition, the typical Brabus Monoblock IX alloy wheels are used, which show gray, high-sheen and matt-lacquered parts. The tire format on the front axle measures 185 / 50 R16 and 205 / 40 R17 at the rear.
Inside there is a lockable glove compartment as standard for the noble smart Brabus, as well as the cool & audio package. In addition to the usual equipment with airbags and all kinds of electronics, a distance warning function ensures the necessary safety. The electronics, which were previously considered to be very rigid, are said to have been redesigned for more driving fun. 
The versions with a fixed roof come with a panoramic glass roof as standard. On the other hand, you can optionally get the smart Brabus as an Xclusive version. This high-end equipment offers sporty elegance with its sports seats with a perforated nappa leather cover. Decorative stitching in gray and an instrument panel in a material mix with synthetic leather ensure a high-quality extension. The Xclusive model also comes with an additional instrument with cockpit clock and rev counter, seat heating and an LED and sensor package. A badge in the mirror triangle provides the necessary X-clusivity.
