Porsche 981 Bergspyder - driving fun through doing without

It was a secret for four years, but now Porsche has published pictures and details about the 981 Bergspyder - the most radical Boxster of all time.

SP-X / Weissach. With the 981 Bergspyder, Porsche has now presented a radical lightweight boxster-based study to the public four years after it was created. 2015 launched the project with the aim of making the Porsche Roadster as light as possible a summiteer.

In order to achieve this goal, a number of parts that were deemed unnecessary were removed. The engineers have declared the roof, insulation materials or the windscreen to be superfluous. There is also only one driver's seat. The dismantling of various parts ensured a reduction in mass by around 300 kilograms to a total weight of 1.099 kilograms.

Despite a radical diet, the 981 Bergspyder remains significantly heavier than its historical role model, which the white exterior paint and the green vertical stripe are supposed to remind of: the 909 Bergspyder from the year 1968. Thanks to a tubular tubular frame made of aluminum and body parts made of GRP, this single-seater managed to dry at just 384 kilograms. A two-liter V8 with 202 kW / 275 PS ensured breathtaking performance, accelerating the mini flounder, which is only 3,50 meters short and 71 centimeters flat, to a maximum of 250 km / h.

Despite its almost three times the weight, the 981 Bergspyder with its 289 kW / 393 PS strong 3,8 liter boxer engine enables a sprint in around four seconds the 100 km / h sprint. Even if the vehicle is technically and visually fascinating, it will remain a one-off that will be in the Porsche Museum in the future. Series production is excluded.
