Porsche Cayenne GT - The provocation

The era of the automobile is drawing to a close - isn't it? In any case, this is the heartfelt wish of many environmentalists and apostles of equality, whose fundamental criticism of the automobile in the face of great SUV models regularly swells to fortissimo. Especially when it comes to the Porsche Cayenne GT goes. There are several particularly efficient drives for the series, and until a few years ago there were even extremely economical diesel variants.

Now the Zuffenhausen-based company has crowned the series with a sporty top-of-the-range model in which performance is not the top priority:

Under the gently sloping bonnet sits a 4,0-liter V8 biturbo, which develops a sensational 471 kW / 640 hp. The maximum torque is 850 Newton meters (Nm). This means that the 100 km / h mark is crossed in a full 3,3 seconds; the top is a smooth 300 km / h. An eight-speed automatic transmission takes care of the power transmission. In view of the outstanding performance, the cycle consumption of 14,1 liters per 100 kilometers is okay. There is of course plenty of room for improvement. The critics shouldn't be annoyed for nothing.

Perfect fit for people and luggage

In contrast to the weaker versions, the Cayenne GT is only available as a coupé. This body variant is stylistically more successful than the basic model with only minimal loss of space, and the designers have succeeded in perfectly concealing the still relatively high roof. You can sit perfectly at the front and back, and the trunk, which can be expanded from 549 to 1464, offers enough space for golf or sailing equipment.

The high engine power of the Cayenne GT corresponds to a very sporty chassis set-up. Although this SUV can also be moved cautiously and comfortably, it shows its extraordinary qualities on serpentines or on the racetrack: Then it parries uneven ground dry, steers extremely precisely and lies like a board on the road with practically no inclination. Ceramic brakes ensure brutal deceleration. Hardly any other car can follow a quickly driven Cayenne GT.

Not everything is necessary

The interior of the Cayenne GT meets high standards, although in some details it can be seen that the series is priced slightly lower than the Panamera luxury sedan. The cup holders, for example, deserved an elegant cover. At the same time, one or the other customer could certainly do without the sports chrono watch, which protrudes obtrusively from the dashboard. Purists, on the other hand, will be delighted with the manual shift gate, on which the desired gear ratio - as an alternative to the shift paddles on the steering wheel - can be controlled directly.

Last combustion SUV?

Connoisseurs will identify the Cayenne GT at first glance: For example, by the independent front apron or by the longitudinally mounted aero elements on the roof wing. The new top model also distinguishes itself acoustically: the center silencer has been omitted, and a sound cloud of impressive clarity unfolds from the centrally positioned titanium tailpipes - a custom-made for the GT.

Perhaps in the future there will actually only be electric SUVs. Then the 196.078 Euro Porsche Cayenne GT would become the ultimate symbol of a genre that can no longer be surpassed. We interpret it differently: As an aesthetic promise of a future that can be even more beautiful, faster and better.
