Electric drives are in demand: In Europe, more than a million E and PHEV models were registered for the first time.

New e-car registrations in the EU more than doubled in 2020. The consulting agency Jato has a total of 1,42 million pure e-mobiles and plug-in hybrids. This corresponds to an increase of 147 percent compared to 2019.

The best-selling battery car on the continent was the Renault Zoe small car with 99.261 units (plus 118 percent), followed by the Tesla Model 3 with 85.713 units (minus 9 percent) and the new VW ID.3 with 56.118 vehicles. The top ten is completed by Hyundai Kona, VW E-Golf, Peugeot 208, Kia Niro, Nissan Leaf, Audi E-Tron and BMW i3.

Among the plug-in hybrids, the new part-time electricity variants of the Mercedes A-Class sold the best with 29.427 units. Despite a decline of 21 percent, the Mitsubishi Outlander came in second with 26.673 new registrations. Third place went to the new Volvo XC40. The ten best-selling models also included VW Passat, BMW 3 Series, Ford Kuga, Volvo XC60, Audi Q5, Mercedes E-Class and Kia Niro.
