Skoda Fabia - Powerful threesomes

At the Geneva Motor Show (March 9 to 19), Skoda is presenting a new 1,0-liter three-cylinder in two output levels for the Fabia small car model. The turbo gasoline engines will replace the previous 1,2-liter four-cylinder from June.

For the new generation of engines, Skoda promises more power with less consumption. Compared to the 1,2-liter machines used to date, fuel consumption is expected to decrease by up to six percent. The new units also save ten kilograms in weight. In addition, they should be characterized by smooth running and a sporty sound.

In the weaker version, the 1.0 TSI delivers 70 kW / 95 PS and 160 Newton meters of torque. In combination with a manual five-speed gearbox, the Fabia should complete the 100 km / h sprint in 10,6 seconds and reach speeds of up to 187 km / h. The consumption is given as 4,3 liters. Alternatively, there is the 1.0 TSI with 81 kW / 110 PS and 200 Newton meters of torque, which can be combined with a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed double clutch transmission. The more powerful three-cylinder accelerates the Fabia from standstill to 9,5 km / h in 100 seconds, the top speed is up to 199 km / h. The standard consumption should be 4,4 liters. Skoda has not yet quoted prices for the new engine variants. These will probably be at the level of the 1,2-liter counterparts, i.e. around 14.000 or 17.000 euros. (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
