Supercharged 2,0l gasoline engines are something like the bread-and-butter drives of small cars right up to the upper middle class these days. The buzzword “turbo” has long since ceased to be a byword for sportiness, but rather a guarantee for lots of torque and low consumption. But it is no longer compulsory as a subordinate clause: “Turbo runs, Turbo drinks”.
Also in the new Q30 2.0T is such a drive. The 211 PS engine taken over by Mercedes-Benz performs unimpressively in the "Active Compact". Here, no wastegate blows off spectacular surplus boost pressure, here only slightly insignificant of the four-cylinder nos exhausts its exhaust to the two tailpipes. Nevertheless, this drive feels just right.
He smoothly delivers his performance and turns the Q30 into a highway sprinter if needed to sniff slower road users on short straights. There comes joy, even if the promised 6,7l consumption then no longer realistic.
