Taxes make fuel expensive

Fuel costs are under discussion again. Especially when it comes to their composition.

Fuels are more expensive than they have been for a long time. Most of the costs are taxes and duties. The crude oil itself currently only accounts for around a quarter of the final price, according to Statista calculations. While a liter of super costs around 152 cents, as it did recently, production only accounts for around 39 cents. The mineral oil tax is 65 cents, the value added tax and the contribution margin each come to around 24 cents. The latter includes the costs for transport, storage, administration, distribution and admixture, but also for research and tenants. The profit made by the mineral oil company on gasoline sales also comes from the contribution margin. According to industry associations, it is in the order of one cent per liter.

If you are frustrated by the high fuel prices, you should take a look abroad. In a European comparison, Germany is more in the middle, while Super aktuell is most expensive in the Netherlands at 179 cents. At 117 cents, fuel is the cheapest in Spain.
