Synthetic diesel from water, air and green electricity?

In the future (50 years plus) we all drive electrically. I'm completely convinced of that. Or was I convinced? Electromobility still has some open questions. There is, for example, the range. Electric cars are still inferior. And there is the question of that “Charging” and the charging stations. So far, our society does not seem to be able to really implement the change. Here, too, the electric cars are inferior to the “classic” because it is an established system of “filling stations” and the rapid refilling of liquid. Still. But what if fuel is getting more and more expensive? What if we simply can no longer afford daily mobility based on fossil fuels? Then electromobility has to win. Or?

Synthetic diesel based on air, water and green electricity?

E-mobility will sooner or later take over the driving force behind individual mobility. Sooner or later. But what about the use cases in which a diesel engine seems necessary? An emergency power generator? Or how do you answer the question of how to store electricity efficiently? Isn't the future just electric and not without alternatives? Probably. For a relatively long period of time you will need liquid fuels as well as a simple charge of electricity. But how do you combine the two? An open question.

And then I read the news this day:

The Dresden-based sunfire GmbH, pioneer for high-temperature fuel cells and reversible high-temperature electrolysers, has now succeeded for the first time in producing artificial diesel fuel based on water, CO2 and green electricity. On March 23, 2015, the engineers removed the crystal-clear, distilled Blue Crude from the power-to-liquids demonstration plant in Dresden - the video shows the crystal-clear and environmentally friendly, synthetic diesel for the first time.

The video provides an explanation of the “power 2 liquide” process used and shows us a possible look into the future.
