Mostly short haul

The German citizens hold back on longer car journeys. But the short haul is booming.

The lockdown measures to contain the corona virus are working. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) recorded a decrease in mobility of almost 2021 percent (2019%) in the first calendar week of 20 compared to the same period in 19,7. In the second calendar week, the decline was somewhat weaker at 14,3%. Particularly noticeable: the German citizens held back when traveling over longer distances. In the first and second calendar week, 37% and 34% fewer trips with a distance of more than 30 kilometers were made. The statisticians also found that there were no significant differences between circles with a 7-day incidence value greater than 200 and those with a lower 7-day incidence. Only 5% of the journeys recorded in the first two calendar weeks exceeded a distance of 30 kilometers. About 40% of all trips were between 5 and 30 kilometers, and around 55%, the majority of trips were shorter than 5 kilometers.
