Accident warning for robotic cars

Automated cars should drive safer than humans in the future. An AI system from the Technical University of Munich could also help.

Emergency braking systems currently only warn the driver shortly before a collision occurs. In the future, they could recognize impending accidents seven seconds in advance. Together with BMW, the Technical University of Munich has now developed a system that uses artificial intelligence to learn from thousands of real traffic situations to anticipate critical situations. The accuracy of the forecast should be 85 percent. The technology should help to operate future automated vehicles safely. The longer the warning time, the sooner the driver can intervene to prevent an accident.
