VDA Classic Car Index

Classic cars are still in demand - especially former everyday vehicles.

Last year, the prices for classic cars rose slightly by 2018 percent compared to 1,4. If you look at the performance since 2016, however, individual models such as the BMW 3 Series (E21) or the BMW CS have increased above average by 61 and 57 percent. In third place is also a BMW, the 02 series (+ 48%), followed by the VW Beetle in fourth place (+ 4%). The top ten list of models with the greatest increase in value from 45 to 2016 is dominated by German manufacturers. Only the Alfa Romeo GT / GTV / Junior (+ 2019%) in ninth place does not come from local production.

The underlying "German Oldtimer Index" has been collected since 1999. The system developed jointly by the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and the Bochum-based valuation specialist Classic-Analytics shows the price development of the most popular classic cars in Germany. The past 20 years show an increase in value of 164 percent. VW Bulli (600%), Citroen 2CV (535%) and 3 Series BMW (523%) lead the ranking of the vehicles with the highest performance. The VW Beetle (4%) and the 5 series from BMW (510%) follow in fourth and fifth place.

For the year 2020, the analysts expect a calm market development, which so far has not been characterized by price drops or panic sales despite the corona pandemic.
