Video: New Porsche 911 and new Porsche Boxter - Erlkönige on the way

The two Porsche prototypes were caught in the USA. The Porsche Boxter (type 981) and the Porsche 2012 (type 911), which is also planned for 991, are parked there on the side of the road and set off on a joyride. The Porsche prototypes are still quite camouflaged, the 911 Porsche has an intentionally built extremely large “rump” at the rear. Nevertheless, the future forms are quite easy to recognize.

New Porsche Boxter

According to experts, the new Porsche 911 will have a wheelbase that is ten centimeters longer, a wider track and a shorter front overhang. This should have a positive effect on driving dynamics. The new Porsche 911 is powered by a boxer with six cylinders, either as a Carrera with 350 hp and 3,4 liters displacement or as a 3,8 liter version with 400 hp. The 911 is also set to roll off the assembly line in a hybrid variant.

In order to take environmental considerations into account, Porsche may integrate turbocharged four-cylinder engines with lower outputs into the new Boxter. This will make it easier to meet future emission regulations and expand the market to a younger target group.

At the IAA in Frankfurt, which takes place from September 15th to 25th, 2011, the new Porsche Boxter and the Porsche 911 could be presented to the public. In all likelihood, both models will officially be on the streets after 2012.
