VW T-Cross - this SUV is even dangerous for the Golf!

The egg of Columbus is also called surprisingly simple solutions, however un laid eggs are not yet ripe for maturity and if you have eggs you are above all brave. Volkswagen currently has the eggs and is launching an egg-laying wool milk sow, a vehicle that has (almost) only advantages, should satisfy many needs of future buyers and, above all, should meet their requirements.
May we introduce? The new VW T-Cross, the new Volks-SUV, if not the new Volkswagen. A vehicle that outperforms the class leader and namesake of the compact class, i.e. the VW Golf, in some respects and is particularly interesting in terms of price.
SUV buyers who appreciate above all the increased seating position, come in the VW T-Cross fully on their taste. SUV buyers, who usually drive alone or with a maximum of four people, and who often drives alone, but has to transport a lot, should also fully rely on the new VW T-Cross, because the vehicle is extremely versatile.
But let's start with the topic that is currently the most difficult in the VW Group: the engines! Well-known units come under the bonnet of the VW T-Cross, which is based on the MQB-A0 platform by the way, but otherwise has few identical parts to the VW Polo.

VW T-Cross engines
All engines comply with the new and strict EURO 6D-TEMP emission standard. Did you know by the way that even in the still shutdown devices are allowed for diesel vehicles? But no matter, that's on a whole different piece of paper. Under the hood come first an 1.0 liter petrol engine with three cylinders and a power range between 95 and 115 PS. An 1.6 liter TDI with the same performance is also a draw, the drives with 115 horses give the power either via a manual manual transmission or via an 7-speed dual-clutch transmission to the front axle. A little later, followed by the 150 PS strong 1.5 EVO petrol engine with four cylinders and cylinder deactivation.
Of course, there are still eggs in the engines, i.e. drives that are not yet ready to be used, or that no Volkswagen employee would like to talk about. But we could well imagine that the 200 PS petrol engine from the VW Polo GTI fits perfectly under the bonnet of the VW T-Cross, especially if it carries the sporty R-Line styling package. On the other hand, it is no secret that a purely electrically powered cross model from Volkswagen will follow in 2020, so we also see hybrid solutions as given, possibly also a CNG variant, but in the T-Cross only the front axle is always driven.

VW T-Cross equipment
No four-wheel? No! The VW T-Cross offers (currently) no four-wheel drive, no adaptive suspension, no frills and in the base of the popular SUV rolls even with H7-Funzeln and classic round instruments in the interior.
Why? The base price should fall below 18.000 Euro and we like that very well, even if we believe that later hardly a T-Cross without the LED headlights should leave the band and that many buyers lose themselves in the optionalities and fall in love become. The new virtual cockpit here, the reversing camera (unprotected mounted under the handle bar) there and one or the other assistant will certainly find their way into the respective configuration.

VW T-Cross interior
The interior of the 4,11 meter long vehicle is tidy, intuitive to use and of course particularly well equipped for the world premiere. By the way, the components from the group modular system cannot be drawn from the full with the T-Cross, the 8 ″ large infotainment display with navigation system is over. But the T-Cross always has the volume controls for the radio that are otherwise so missed. During the first seating test, it was found that almost everyone can find a suitable seating position in the front. Seat adjustment, belt height adjustment, steering wheel adjustment and enough space on both front seats, all paired with a really tidy dashboard, there is not much to complain about. There are optionally up to four USB charging sockets and the smartphone can also be charged inductively. It's a shame that you still have to connect it with the cable to access connectivity solutions such as Apple Car Play.
There is enough space at the front and this also applies to the second row of seats, which does not have handles on the roof, but does have enough head and leg freedom. Unless you move the bench up to 15cm forward. In that case, the trunk increases, but the second row becomes a penalty bench. On longer stretches, we see four people sitting in this five-seater. Two child seats can be mounted.
The trunk is great, that also applies to the variability.

VW T-Cross trunk
The trunk volume is between 385 and 1281 liters and even the front passenger seat can be folded down. In this case, the T-Cross becomes a space miracle. If you push the rear seat back forward, a 455 liter trunk is available. In this case, the VW T-Cross outperforms not only the VW Polo, but also the VW Golf (380 liters) and even the VW T-Roc (445 liters). In terms of volume, the two vehicles still have legroom in the rear, so we have to stay fair.

VW T-Cross price & conclusion

The new VW T-Cross drives up in bright colors from 18.000 euros and also brings some confusion with it, because the equipment lines have changed. The basic version is now simply called T-Cross, above it is Life and Style etc. and a Life-Style SUV is the new VW T-Cross, not a vehicle for the hard terrain, but rather for the dirt road, a vehicle for the urban environment, for the way from A to B in the urban jungle. A vehicle for everyone, whether single, young family or someone from the gray generation. With the VW T-Cross, Volkswagen has apparently not laid an egg in its nest, but has put a marketable vehicle on 16-18 ″ wheels, which, however, not only in the field of competitors (Opel Crossland X, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, etc. ), but is also likely to poach in their own group.
Our conclusion on the VW T-Cross: This vehicle could even be dangerous to the VW Golf.
