VW Tiguan Allspace Facelift: Big one gets a small update

The Tiguan Allspace will be refreshed in some details in autumn. For the drives, however, VW continues to rely on diesel.

A year later, the XL offshoot Allspace will also benefit from the Tiguan facelift introduced in autumn 2020. Many innovations in the short version will now also be available in the stretched and optionally seven-seater sister model. As before, the long version will do a lot differently compared to the short version.

The brake lights in the upcoming Tiguan Allspace are even more distinctive thanks to the click-clack function

That leaves diesel

The latter applies above all to the drives, because unlike the short version, the long Tiguan will still not be available with a hybrid drive, 48-volt mild hybrid or an R version. The engines remain conventional and down-to-earth and the Allspace a classic diesel car. As before, the two 2.0 TDIs with 110 kW / 150 PS and 147 kW / 200 PS and twin-dosing emission control are available. Both diesel engines remain positively coupled with DSG, all-wheel drive is optional with 150 hp, standard with 200 hp. The more powerful diesel alone has so far had a market share of 40 percent in Germany. The extra role is reserved for the three petrol engines with 110 kW / 150 PS, 140 kW / 190 PS and 180 kW / 245 PS.

As before, the long version offers a nuance-differentiated front compared to the short Tiguan, some details of which have also been modified. In the future, all Allspace variants will come with all-round LED lights, with optional matrix headlights and daytime running lights running across the grille. The lower front apron of the R-Line version in particular has a more three-dimensional shape and also offers more chrome jewelry. At the rear, a new apron and the so-called click-clack taillights ensure a little freshness.

Online

The innovations in the interior include a digital instrument cluster, multifunction steering wheel, an infotainment system with a touchscreen of at least 8 inches and digital control of the “Air Care Climatronic” automatic climate control system with illuminated touch fields and sliders. A Harman Kardon sound system is optionally available. The Allspace will also be “always on” in the future, i.e. always connected to the Internet thanks to eSIM. The connectivity arsenal includes the online services "We Connect", a personalized setting preference stored in the cloud that can be called up via ID, the wireless integration of smartphones, inductive charging cradles and USB-C connections.

As a 5 or 7 seater

The IQ Drive Travelassist stands for the development of automated driving skills, which can further relieve the driver with lateral and longitudinal guidance through distance cruise control and Lance Assist. The ACC cruise control also uses navigation data to adapt the vehicle speed to the road layout.

As before, the Allspace offers five or seven seats. With small seats, the trunk can hold up to 1.920 liters of luggage. When it comes to equipment, customers can choose between a nameless basis as well as the Live, Elegance and R-Line levels and, as before, also order a black-style package. The start of orders for the long Tiguan, which in Germany has an internal sales share of 25 percent, is in May. The prices of the long version, which will be available from October, will start at around 36.000 euros.
