Wallbox funding: questions and answers

What exactly is being funded? Who can submit applications? And how much money is there anyway? The new wallbox funding is relatively unbureaucratic - but it still raises questions in detail.

The federal government wants to promote the construction of private electric car charging stations with a broad-based wallbox bonus. It starts in a few days. The most important questions and answers.

What is promoted?

There is money for the purchase and construction of a brand-new, not publicly accessible charging station including the electrical connection and the associated necessary ancillary work on parking spaces in existing residential buildings. No funding is given for publicly accessible charging stations, for example in underground office garages or in customer parking lots in shops.

Who is funded?

Both private owners and landlords as well as tenants can apply for funding - the latter, however, require the consent of the landlord. In addition, homeowners' associations can submit applications.

Which wallboxes are funded?

The charging station must have a normal charging capacity of 11 kilowatts and provide electricity from renewable sources, for example from its own photovoltaic system. In addition, it must be intelligently controllable. A regularly updated positive list can be found on the website of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau.

How much money is there?

The state pays a grant of 900 euros per charging point. But there is only money if the costs are actually at least 900 euros. If the invoice says 899 euros, the funding does not apply. The same applies to several charging points; For example, if three connections only cost 2.500 euros, the applicant only receives 1.800 euros.

How do I get funding?

The applications must be submitted to the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau. And that before the charging station is ordered. The link on the bank's website will be activated on November 24th. Proof of identity is required for the application - either by Schufa check, video identification or Postident procedure. The wallbox can then be purchased and installed. Once everything is ready, the invoice must be submitted online to KfW as proof.
