Luxury SUV with new names and details
The thing with the G runs through the SUV model range at Mercedes-Benz. “The G”, the forefather of the off-road vehicle and only recently “freshly made”, All SUVs in the Mercedes range should benefit from this radiance, from this legendary off-road capability. Therefore, Mercedes-Benz started to adapt the names of the SUV model range (we reported about it). The LA Auto Show now forms the framework for the last baptism for the time being. With the facelift of the Mercedes GL, it becomes the GLS at the same time. G is the namesake of the off-roader and SUV. At the bottom there was a GLA, the SUV for the A-Class, the GLK became the GLC, the SUV to match the C-Class, the ML became the GLE, the SUV in the E-Class segment, and there was also one there four-door coupé, the GLE Coupé. And now, GL becomes GLS, the S-Class for the terrain. Theoretically. Because in practice the large SUVs drive more “on the road” than “off the road”.
More power, more gears, more multimedia
Outwardly, hand was only gently applied. The GLS is popular among the large SUVs; an optical 180 ° change was not necessary. In addition to the new LED headlights at the front, the big star in the grill and the gently modified taillights, it's the inner values that count. The new GLS now has the 9-speed automatic transmission and the large Comand display. For the first time, AMG sports seats can also be ordered for the SUV. Whereby his feeling of space emphasizes the “seven-seater” rather than the fact that you now have to sweep the sportsman out.
There are four motors to choose from. Among them three petrol and one diesel. GLS 400, the V6 turbo with 333 PS, the GLS 500 with the well-known V8 turbo engine and 455 PS and the only diesel, the GLS 350d with 3 liter displacement and 258 PS. Above these performance classes, the AMG variant ranks as the GLS 63 with a V585 bi-turbo now providing 8 PS.
The GLS is a luxury SUV and the prices accordingly. The 350d marks the beginning for just under € 75.000 - at the other end the GLS 63 AMG ranks for € 135.000!
