The clever business sedan can now last longer
World premiere for the E-Class with the extra plus in wheelbase
In China, for China - the new E-Class XXL is also being built in China
The long version of the E-Class is produced locally in a joint venture exclusively for the domestic market. BMW and Audi also approach the topic in a similar way. In China, driving with a chauffeur is considered an important status symbol. Not just for the top echelons of government and business. Therefore, sedans from the middle class onwards are often available in long versions. Under the hood, however, modesty is cultivated again. And the extended E-Class also maintains a respectable distance of around 5 centimeters from the S-Class. However, the wheelbase of the E-Class “L” is around 4.4 centimeters longer. This increase in length is noticeable in the second row.
As with the E-Class with a normal wheelbase, the “long E-Class” is also manufactured with two different faces. Available in the classic version, which has the star on the hood, or in the sporty version with the brand symbol integrated into the radiator grille. From the side, an additional triangular window in the C-pillar and an emblem on the C-pillar help to distinguish the “long E-Class” from its siblings. Visually, the wheelbase, stretched by 140 mm, fits perfectly with the basic design of the new E-Class, With the long wheelbase, however, the E-Class optically slips one step closer to the S-Class.
The 14 centimeters more wheelbase are especially good for passengers in row two. At 13.4 centimeters there grows the footwell in length.
High-tech on board, multi-beam LED on the front
Common to all rear seat variants is a folding center armrest. This offers completely new technology and convenience features. This includes:
- an illuminated storage compartment
- a USB port
- an integrated touch screen (special equipment)
- Wireless charging of the mobile phone (special equipment)
- heatable support (special equipment)
- as an extended center console a temperature-controlled on request Cupholder
In addition, the rear area meets the requirements of an office and “relaxation room”
On request (optional), a large number of vehicle and COMAND functions can of course also be controlled from the rear - either via a touchscreen display permanently integrated in the center armrest or with the corresponding app on a tablet or smartphone.
The multi-beam LED light with 84 individually controllable LEDs, known from the E-Class, is also available as an option in the long version.
About prices and engine is not yet known.

And of course the long E-Class is above all a car for the market in China, a market launch in Germany is currently not planned.
