Global bestsellers for cars - VW loses and wins

The bestsellers of VW fight with some massive losses, but the Wolfsburg have a new star in the race.

In the first quarter of 2019, VW's bestsellers sold significantly less worldwide than in the previous year. In return, a Volkswagen largely unknown in Germany was promoted to the top ten for the first time. As usual, Toyota's Corolla took first place there, which according to the counseling firm Focus2move sold around 283.000 copies worldwide in the first three months. Also in second place is Ford's F series with almost 252.000 sales. Honda's bestseller was on the up, because while the Civic climbed from fourth to third place with around 203.000 units, the CR-V increased by almost 190.000 percent to over 20 units, thus increasing from seventh to fourth place.

With just over 200 units less, Toyota's RAV4 slipped from third to fifth place. The VW Golf sold 177.500 times, which was able to maintain its sixth place, but lost more than 23 percent compared to the same period last year. The VW Tiguan lost 173.000 percent with 15 units and ended up in 7th place, followed by the Polo, which held 168.000th place with a good 3,1 sales (-8%). Toyota's Camry also remains unchanged with 164.000 units. Meanwhile, the VW Lavida, which the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer produces and sells in China, rose massively (+21,3%).
