Winter Tire Tip: Dunlop Winter Sport 5

No modern car can do without the electric helpers like ABS, ESP, traction control and so on! Still, the only contact with the road is through the tires. When it gets cold, winter comes in and the road conditions change often between snow, ice, slush, rain, freezing wet and dry roads - then a tire is a special responsibility.

If the coefficients of friction decrease, then good winter tires especially important!

“Auto, motor und sport” judges it with: “very recommendable”!

The DUNLOP Winter Sport 5 has a special slat structure so that you are safe on the road even in these changing road conditions. Dunlop speaks of hybrid slats. These have been developed in such a way that the tread blocks deform in a controlled manner, for example when braking on dry and wet roads to have the necessary stability so that excellent braking and handling properties are implemented. On snow, however, the slats are flexible enough to reach into the ground and literally claw their way into the snow with their gripping edges.

In order to achieve excellent handling and grip on all winter roads, the Dunlop tire has a large number of obliquely arranged sipes. The slats that run parallel to the block edges allow more grip edges in the transverse direction. This counteracts the centrifugal forces when cornering and provides more lateral guidance and control in curves and directional stability when driving straight ahead on snow, ice and wet roads.

Deep tread grooves also allow good water drainage. The stable center of the tread with a wide, central block provides the tire with the necessary rigidity for dynamic, sporty driving characteristics.

In your current issue (21/2015) judges the “ams” with the test verdict: “Highly recommended” about this tire. 10 tires of size 225 / 50-17 were tested, the Dunlop Winter Sport 5 is the second best tire in the test after the Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance!

Dunlop offers the Winter Sport 5 in various tire sizes from 15 to 19 inches.
