WLTP continues to break new registrations

Many passenger car models are still waiting for their WLTP test results and thus for approval. Their absence is clearly noticeable in the new registration statistics.

The delivery difficulties of many automakers in the wake of the WLTP conversion drive the new registration statistics into negative territory. In November, only 272.674 new cars were registered for the first time in Germany, 9,9 percent less than in the same month last year, as reported by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The balance sheet of the current year is only slightly positive with an increase of 0,4 percent to 3,2 million new registrations.

The background for the weak November result is the problem of some manufacturers having to certify their vehicles according to the new emission measurement procedure WLTP in due time. New car variants that have not yet passed the test bench test can no longer be registered since September. The backlog of the certifications should be made up to the beginning of 2019, the corresponding models then be available again.
