MotorOli & PhotoRalph at the world premiere of the new Audi A5 Coupé. Anyone can just show the car briefly. Of course, the guys went over the target again with a lot of gossip and the “all around”. But what the hell: Just watch the video 🙂
For everyone who wants a little more information, here is the official press release and pictures from Audi AG:
Audi revolutionized its mid-range class with the A5 in 2007. The Ingolstadt-based company created a design work of art that quickly won fans all over the world. The second generation is now starting nine years later - with a new, sharpened look and high-tech in all areas. The new generation of the A5 Coupé * is athletic, sporty and elegant. Its design is paired with sophisticated aerodynamics. Underneath the bodywork, the A5 impresses with a completely newly developed chassis, powerful drives as well as innovative infotainment features and driver assistance systems.
How do you make a design artwork even more beautiful? This question occupied the Audi designers for years. The result is convincing: The new Audi A5 Coupé * is fresh, modern and sharpened. At the same time it remains true to its genes and continues the sporty-elegant character in the new version. The best example is the already in the previous model formative, now three-dimensional shoulder line in the form of a wave. The precisely curved line with powerful curves over the wheel arches accentuates all four wheels - an indication of quattro all-wheel drive.
The perfectly balanced proportions with a long bonnet, the extended wheelbase and short overhangs underline the sportiness of the new A5 Coupé. The sculptured single-frame grill is much flatter and wider than its predecessor. The LED taillights and the optional LED or Matrix LED headlights with dynamic flashing light make high-end technology visible even at night.
The motors
The new Audi A5 Coupé * will be launched in Germany with five engines, two TFSI and three TDI. Their output has increased significantly - it is between 140 kW (190 PS) and 210 kW (286 PS). Compared to the previous model, they have up to 17 percent more performance, while their consumption has decreased by up to 22 percent. All of the units combine high efficiency with sporty power delivery and smooth running - this is especially true for the two 3.0 TDI six-cylinder units.
The Audi S5 Coupé * drives in a league of its own with its newly developed 3.0 TFSI. The turbo V6 shows a highly efficient sports car performance. From 2.995 cm3 The turbocharged six-cylinder engine generates an output of 260 kW (354 hp), 15 kW (21 hp) more than its predecessor.
The power transmission
The new Audi A5 Coupé * has a tailor-made power transmission solution for every engine: the manual six-speed gearbox and seven-speed S tronic are used in the four-cylinder units and in the 3.0 TDI with 160 kW (218 hp) with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The eight-speed tiptronic is reserved for the top diesel with 210 kW (286 hp) and the S5 engine *. Both units come with quattro as standard. On request, Audi can supply you with the sport differential on the rear axle, which ensures even more driving dynamics and precision.
For the first time, the new quattro with ultra technology is also available. It can currently be combined with the TFSI and TDI four-cylinder engines with manual transmission. Optimized for efficiency, the traction and driving dynamics make no difference to permanent systems.
The chassis
The completely redesigned chassis is one of the strengths of the Audi A5 Coupé *. It offers the driver optimal comfort with a high level of agility. The A5 masters narrow, winding mountain roads just as confidently as long motorway journeys. Audi optionally offers a suspension with damper control. This is integrated into the Audi drive select dynamic handling system. The driver can set the basic characteristics in several stages.
The electromechanical power steering is also a new development from Audi. It follows the current speed and gives a high-precision feedback from the road. Optionally, there is the dynamic steering, which varies its ratio depending on speed and steering angle.
The body
Compared to its predecessor, the Audi A5 Coupé * has become significantly more efficient. The weight reduction and sophisticated aerodynamics play a major role in this. The engineers reduced the curb weight by up to 60 kilograms. Thanks to an intelligent mix of materials and lightweight construction, the body is one of the lightest in the competitive field. The front runner in the segment is the A5 Coupé in terms of aerodynamics, with a cwValue of 0,25.
The interior
The increased dimensions and the extended wheelbase benefit the interior. The space for drivers and passengers is more generous. The horizontal architecture of the instrument panel and the continuous air jet band create a spacious feeling. Audi typical prevails in the interior uncompromisingly high quality workmanship. High-quality materials in a variety of colors create a special feel-good atmosphere and underline the premium character of the mid-range model. On request, the interior of the ambient lighting with 30 adjustable color tones is appropriately staged. The new A5 Coupé * also sets standards in its class for aeroacoustics. The noise comfort is almost equivalent to that of a luxury-class model.
The luggage compartment offers 465 liters of volume, ten liters more than its predecessor. The rear seat is divided in the ratio 40: 20: 40 and can be easily folded over lever from the luggage compartment to the front. Upon request, Audi will provide gesture control for the two-door coupé to open the boot lid by foot movement. The optional trailer hitch unlocks electrically at the push of a button.
Display and operation
For the first time, the Audi virtual cockpit, a TFT display with 5-inch diagonal and a resolution of 12,3 x 1.440 pixels, is available as an option for the A540 Coupé *. In conjunction with the MMI navigation plus including 8,3 inch monitor on the center console, it forms the central information unit. At the center of the MMI terminal is the round turn / push button. On its surface it carries the touch-sensitive touchpad. It is used to enter characters and multi-finger gestures - the driver can also zoom in the map. The complete MMI operating logic is based on current smartphones, including intelligent free text search. The new, more natural voice control also processes input from everyday speech - such as: "I want to call Peter."
Infotainment and Audi connect
If the customer chooses MMI navigation plus, they automatically receive the Audi connect hardware module and the new Audi connect SIM, a SIM card permanently installed in the car. The new Audi A5 Coupé * connects to the internet via the super-fast LTE network. Use of the versatile Audi connect services is free for three years - both in Germany and in most European countries, as it is automatically set to the respective country provider if required.
Independently of the integrated Audi connect services, the customer can optionally book additional data packages for individual Internet use via a WLAN hotspot. This means that all passengers can surf and email the Internet with up to eight mobile devices at attractive rates.
In addition, the A5 is optionally available with the Audi connect emergency call & service package. These include functions such as an automatic emergency call in the event of an accident, online breakdown calls, Audi service appointments online, and remote functions that can be used with the MMI connect app on a smartphone, smartwatch or in conjunction with the Apple TV generation 4 from the television. This includes, for example, locking and unlocking the car, inquiring about the parking position and calling up the vehicle status.
With the Audi smartphone interface, the familiar smartphone environment can be included on board via Apple Car Play and Android Auto. The optional Audi phone box with wireless charging in the center armrest connects the mobile phone wirelessly to the car antenna via near-field coupling and enables inductive charging according to the Qi standard. The Bang & Olufsen Sound System with the innovative 3D sound is optionally available for discerning hi-fi fans.
The driver assistance systems
An intelligent combination of different technologies increases the safety, comfort and efficiency of the new Audi A5 Coupé *. At the same time, Audi is taking the next step towards piloted driving. The wide range of innovative driver assistants sets standards in the segment. Compared to the previous model, almost all systems are completely new or have been greatly enhanced.
The predictive efficiency assistant helps the driver to save fuel, the Audi active lane assist helps keep the lane and the adaptive cruise control Stop & Go including traffic jam assistant relieves him in slow-moving traffic. The parking assistant, the rear cross traffic assistant, the exit warning, the avoidance assistant and the turning assistant as well as the Audi pre sense systems are innovations that provide important safety services. A camera-based traffic sign recognition completes the offer.
The new Audi A5 Coupé will go on sale in Germany and other European countries in autumn 2016. Compared to the previous model, the standard equipment is even more extensive. It includes xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights and LED rear lights, LED interior lights, the Audi MMI radio plus with 7-inch MMI color display, Bluetooth and USB charging function, the 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel (included with automatic transmission Rocker switches) the belt feeder with belt height adjustment, the Audi drive select driving dynamics system and Audi pre sense city.
The new equipment lines create a multitude of options for customization - in the interior as well as in the exterior. In addition to the basic model, there are the sport and design lines. In addition, the S line sport package and the Audi design selection are available for high-quality customization, especially in the interior. Audi offers the S line exterior package for a particularly dynamic exterior look.
The Audi S5 Coupé
From 0 to 100 km / h in 4,7 seconds - the new Audi S5 Coupé * combines emotional elegance with the performance of a sports car. Its newly developed turbo V6 engine has an output of 260 kW (354 hp) and consumes just 7,3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. The sharper S exterior design and the S-specific details in the interior underline the dynamic character of the two-door sports coupé from Audi.
