5 economical electric cars

Anyone who buys an e-car usually also wants to protect the climate. This works best with these five models. At the same time, these vehicles help to save money.

Electric Cars are supposed to protect the environment and climate with their zero-emission drives. But with their partly huge batteries, energy-hungry performance drives and also a lot of coal electricity in the "tank" some of the green promise falls by the wayside. Anyone who wants to switch to the alternative drive type and thus also seriously want to do climate protection should ideally look out for particularly efficient models. Here are five particularly economical electric vehicles that use comparatively little energy and resources.

5th place – Hyundai Kona Electric

With 14,3 kWh per 100 kilometers Hyundais compact SUV model Kona Elektro is one of the most economical electric cars on the market. This is the entry-level version with a smaller 39 kWh battery and a 100 kW/136 hp electric drive. After all, the 1,6-ton Stromer does the sprint from a standing start to 100 km/h in 9,9 seconds, and the top speed is 155 km/h. Despite the smaller battery format, the Kona is also available with 64 kWh as an alternative, a range of more than 300 kilometers is possible according to WLTP. Even with its space and a 332 to 1.114 liter trunk, the everyday use is already at a good level. At 35.650 euros before the environmental bonus, the Kona also remains affordable.

4th place – Tesla Model 3 RWD

Performance and efficiency do not have to be contradictory, as Tesla's Model 3 shows in the slimmed-down RWD version. Here the wheels of the rear axle alone are driven with a lavish 239 kW/325 hp, which allows fuel from a standstill to 100 in 6,1 seconds and a maximum of 225 km/h. According to the WLTP measurement, those who take it easy will get by with 14,0 kWh per 100 kilometers. At the same time, the model from the US car manufacturer, which is priced at around 43.000 euros, offers a generously dimensioned 60 kWh battery, which is said to enable an impressive range of 491 kilometers.

3rd place – Dacia Spring

In the case of the Dacia Spring from China, on the other hand, the focus is on maximum sacrifice. The long-legged five-door is not only compact with a length of 3,74 meters, with a weight of around one ton and a 33 kW/44 hp drive, it is also light-footed. All in all, this ensures low consumption of 13,9 kWh per 100 kilometers. In this case, you can also save on the price, because the basic version is already available for 20.490 euros. Less the e-premium, that is less than 11.000 euros. And after all, the 27,4 kWh battery offers a range of 230 kilometers. With regard to loading times, technology, comfort and driving behavior, however, you should not have too high expectations.

2nd place – Hyundai Ioniq Electric

Again, the Hyundai Ioniq Elektro offers significantly more car, comfort and range, which offers a drive that is almost identical to the Kona Elektro, but thanks to its more aerodynamic shape remains a little more resource-efficient. Here it is 13,8 kWh per 100 kilometers, which, thanks to the 38 kWh battery, ensures a WLTP range of 311 kilometers. In addition, the Korean offers a generously sized trunk with 357 to 1.417 liters and a top speed of 165 km/h, which is even decent. At 35.350 euros before premium, the price remains pleasingly low.

1st place – Fiat 500e

The official consumption of 2021 kWh per 500 kilometers shows that Fiat has achieved a great success with the new edition of the 13,0 introduced in 100. This is currently by far the most efficient thoroughbred electric bike. However, it then has to be the more modest basic version Action with the compact 23,8 kWh battery. This offers a powerful 70 kW/95 hp drive and is therefore already lively, as well as decent equipment.

With a range of 3,63 kilometers, the 190 meter long two-door car is not a huge range, but the basic version has fast charging technology for up to 50 kW direct current on board. A trip from Hamburg to Berlin would therefore be possible with a short refueling stop. Although the 500e Action is a comparatively cheap electric car at 26.790 euros, its space is modest - typical for small cars.
