The fun-mobile: With the Mazda MX-5 the beginning of the 90er years started the renaissance of the Roadster. What was already enthusiastic at that time, the soft-top two-seater still offers today: low weight, revving engine and extremely agile handling. Comfort and practicality are reduced to a minimum, but are not completely missing. The safety equipment is up to date. The current generation makes in the base 96 kW / 131 PS and costs from 23.000 Euro.
The cheapest: Cheap is never convertible driving. For an open new car you have to put at least 14.425 Euro on the table - and get the Smart Fortwo Convertible. The electric top opens spontaneously at the touch of a button, but for the full open-air experience, the roof rails must be removed, which is worthwhile only in stable summer weather. Rather unusual: The luggage compartment offers the convertible is not at a disadvantage compared to the coupe. Of course, there is not much space. Prices start at 14.425 Euro for the model with the 0,9-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine and 52 kW / 71 PS.
The weatherproof: For purists, the steel folding roof has a tough stand. That the chunky metal top not fully reveals the convertible thoughts, however, shows the Mercedes SLC. For a long time known as the SLK, the Comfort Roadster is an open-minded fun and closed against wind and weather. After the current third generation 2020 is still final, who wants to buy the current model (from 115 kW / 156 PS, from 40.882 Euro) as a new car, so should hurry.
The eco-car: convertibles are fun cars with a pinch of irrationality. Alternative drives are therefore not very popular. One of the few exceptions is the BMW i8 Roadster, which comes with a 275 kW / 374 PS strong plug-in hybrid drive and a standard consumption of two liters. As a sports car, the Munich is only partially suitable (especially if he is dependent on the three-cylinder gasoline engine with a scarce power supply), as a sensational eco-cruiser for summer country roads, but he works all the better. With a price of 156.750 Euro, the thrift is expensive but bought.
The off-road: Boulevards are the natural biotopes of convertibles. Also, the Range Rover Evoque convertible will probably see more often on Kö and Leopoldstraße as in mud and mud. After all, unlike most other open cars, it would not be completely overwhelmed. Who is ready for the attention of passers-by and the theoretical off-road potential to spend a lot of money (from 56.580 Euro) for a SUV with little (suitcase) space, should hurry up. Because that the convertible survives the upcoming model change in the Evoque, seems unlikely. And a comparable car will probably not exist anywhere else for the time being.
