Electric car dictionary: Electric mobility provider

With the electric car, new words and concepts seep into everyday automotive language. You should know some of them especially as an e-mobilist.

Anyone who wants to make calls while on the move needs a phone booth - or a cell phone provider. If you want to charge flexibly on the go, you need an electric mobility provider.

The direct contractual partner of the traction current customer is not necessarily the electricity manufacturer or infrastructure operator. Instead, there is often a service provider who intervenes and, for example, takes care of the authorization at the charging station via app or card, the handling of the refueling process and the subsequent billing. Depending on the tariff, a monthly basic fee is due. The best-known EMPs currently include "EnBW Mobility +", "Shell Recharge" and "Plugsurfing".

In some cases, the companies also act as charging station operators. The charging apps or cards also apply to the systems of other companies. This makes charging on the move easier and usually more transparent for the customer. Most EMPs offer their customers fixed prices for the kilowatt hour. However, it can also turn out to be higher than it would be with contract-free ad hoc charging.
