Jaguar replaces Ford's V6 engines in the model range with its own in-line six-cylinder engines. The British magazine "Autocar" reports that the gasoline and diesel in-line six-stroke are based on the new Ingenium engine family, which originates in the plant in Wolverhampton.
The engine family is modular, with 0,5 liter capacity per cylinder. For the six-cylinder, this results in a displacement of 3,0 liters. In addition to the already well-known four-cylinder engines, three-cylinder engines with 1,5 liter displacement will be built on this basis in the future. Advantage is among other things a high number of identical parts.
This Jaguar is fully in vogue, other automakers pursue a modular strategy. In the case of Mercedes, for example, in-line six-cylinder engines will also be used in future in the E-Class, which are part of a modular engine generation that also includes four-cylinder engines.
