Survey: popularity of means of transport

The bicycle has been enjoying increasing popularity for years. But this is not always the same in Germany.

In a comparison of the federal states, Bremen is Germany's bicycle stronghold. This is the result of a survey by the insurance company HUK-Coburg as part of a mobility study. Over 4.000 people aged 16 and over were asked, among other things, whether they see the bicycle as an ideal means of transport. 45 percent of residents in the city-state of Bremen answered in the affirmative. This is followed by Lower Saxony (38%) as well as Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 37 percent each. The federal states of Bavaria and Berlin achieved exactly the national average of 29 percent. Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate with 23 percent each and Saarland are at the bottom of the ranking with the fewest bicycle fans. Only 19 percent of those questioned there favored the bicycle.
