Survey: buying a car in corona times

Corona brings movement into many habits. Changes can also be seen when buying a car.

Corona is changing the buying behavior of those interested in new and used cars, as a survey of the online marketplace "Autoscout24" among 6.000 users in Europe has shown. Used car buyers are increasingly considering older and cheaper models; New car customers make friends with leasing and subscription models.

Due to the corona pandemic, Germans, for example, want to choose older vehicles when buying a used car (25 percent), vehicles whose color they do not like (21 percent), a high mileage (17 percent) or slight damage from scratches and dents (10 percent) to have. Inexpensive brands are also coming into focus: In this country, 22 percent are looking for cheaper brands, in Austria it is 24 percent and in Italy 25 percent.

A quarter of those surveyed could imagine ordering a new car over the Internet. In Belgium the figure is 28 percent, and 24 percent of the German survey participants indicate that they are willing to order a vehicle on the Internet. Car subscription models are also becoming more interesting for Europeans, as no major one-off investments are necessary here either. However, the Germans, with a 19 percent approval rate, are still the least enthusiastic about this idea, here the Austrians are ahead with 24 percent.
