Toyota Land Speed Cruiser - world record contender

220 miles an hour or the equivalent of 354 km / h - wants to reach this record Toyota to drive his land cruiser. The Land Speed Cruiser, which was specially built for the desired SUV top speed world record, is currently celebrating its debut at the SEMA tuning fair in Las Vegas.

The power SUV looks impressively toxic. The black Land Cruiser was extremely low, which necessitated a comprehensive conversion of the chassis. Just to mount the much wider high-speed wheels under the body, the track had to be reduced by over seven centimeters, among other things.

However, the modifications to the drive are more important. This is where a 570-liter V5,7 petrol engine taken from the Lexus LX 8 comes in, which Toyota has given a Garrett turbocharger the size of a volleyball for each cylinder bank. The engine should be able to mobilize 2.000 hp. An elaborate cooling system and a revised coupling ensure appropriate stability. So far, the vehicle weighing a good 2,7 tons has been tested on various high-speed lines, but the world record run is still pending. At Toyota USA, however, there seems to be little doubt that it will set the new record in the near future. (Mario Hommen / SP-X)
