trive.me: Parking, easier than expected!

There are things that are not understood as a technique of affine autoblogger. For example, why there is still no everyday indoor navigation? When I get into my car, after entering the destination, it tells me exactly when I'm there and explains the best route there. Thank GPS signal, maps, traffic flow and motion information. Who can still remember how to find the way with the card on the lap? Quarrel with the passenger when reading the map? There is no longer. The navigation system knows the right way, the best way. As soon as you walk in public space, things look different. Yes, Google Maps knows the way from A to B, but in a department store the fastest way to the next Apple Store? You rely on signposts. Printed and hung. If you find these, you find your way around. Otherwise? One searches. How to look for a free parking lot in a full parking garage at Christmas time.

"I've been doing my rounds for hours. I can't find a parking space, I just want ...”Herbert Grönemeyer once sang that. It was a long time ago, the older ones among you may remember.

But that should change now. If the parking garage app from the start-up “trive.me” is anything to go by, then in the future we will also be able to find our way around indoors very easily.

Indoor navigation - Mobility also rethought indoors

The app is called “trive.park” and uses indoor positioning technology that helps you not lose your orientation even in closed rooms. From the start at home to a free parking space in the parking garage, with the trive.park app you can implement real “end-to-end” navigation. This is made possible by a combination of several technologies. The smartphone's sensors, WiFi, Bluetooth, vehicle data and GPS are bundled into a package and combined into an APP using the trive.me software solution. Another function of trive.park is the “Car Finder”, which automatically detects whether you are still parked or have already driven away. Extremely user-friendly as the parked position is saved automatically, but also essential for parking garage planning. This information can also be used to derive occupancy forecasts and reduce the hardware previously used to detect free parking spaces.

Indoor navigation via trive.park APP

Alexander Süssemilch, the responsible project manager for trive.park, said at the demonstration of the APP: IAs part of the opening of a new EDAG branch in Wolfsburg, our product was made available to the public in live use for the first time. That was an important milestone for us. In the end, our team worked day and night to be able to present the release on the deadline. Thanks to our experienced software developers and our agile development process, we were able to implement the desired range of functions on time. So far we could only test in the laboratory and on smaller areas. The main challenge in the project in Wolfsburg was therefore that the self-developed app and the algorithms now had to function properly in a huge parking garage with constantly changing occupancy. Numerous testers and customers were able to confirm that we did just that. Now we are "ready" and can offer the algorithms for all aspects of indoor positioning on the market as a downloadable software component. We are more than proud of that.

Hey man! Where is my car?

Once again it shows: good apps and necessary solutions start in the mind. Sometimes the problem is so simple and in the case of “indoor navigation” it is just so normal - you use signposts. But the power of data, networking and the APP philosophy of “now time” simply requires a change. The next generation will probably wonder why these signposts used to exist. They could never be as accurate as map-based navigation. Cards? Soon it will just be a relic of the past. Oh and of course I'm personally particularly looking forward to one function: “finding” your car in the parking garage. How many times has it happened to me? Parked at the airport, came back after two days and was then faced with the question: “Hey man! Where is my car?"  … With trive.park that was also done 😉
