AC Schnitzer ACL2 - The BMW 2 Series becomes a Hulk

If you annoy him, then he becomes huge, angry and impetuous, even really uncomfortable: we're talking about the Hulk. But not only the film and television monster is really sprawling, but also the AC Schnitzer ACL2. The starting point is the BMW 235i, which apparently seemed a bit too bland for the Aacheners. 320 HP can also be really boring in a compact ... Well, BMW has the M2 in its quiver, but the idea behind the ACL2 also seems to be yawning too tiredly, it seems. So they transplanted the unit of the current BMW M4 into the compact coupé and also tweaked the performance. Yield: 570 PS. Stern driven. Evil!

At the Geneva Motor Show, the tuner from Aachen showed how to turn a BMW 2er into a real hell machine. So AC Schnitzer transplanted the unit from the BMW M4 including an increase in performance and Vmax suspension under the new carbon hood. The performance increase on 570 PS was achieved through control unit optimization, a downpipe, which is responsible for performance and torque increases, and a sports silencer system with a special catalytic converter with 200 cell technology. There was not much left of the BMW M 235i as a whole, since the standard axles also fell victim to the exchange for M4 technology. In addition, there was an infinitely height-adjustable clubsport suspension, which is adjustable in rebound and compression, as well as specially designed support bearings and a stiffening M4 carbon strut bridge.

So that the power can be adequately brought to the ground, the tuner installed a rear axle differential with Drexler lock, which enables a locking effect of 25 to 95 percent and thus allows very high cornering speeds. Good cornering performance can of course be achieved primarily through weight reduction, which the complete carbon intake and the lightweight battery should accomplish. So AC Schnitzer manages to reduce the weight to 2,54 kg / PS and is thus in a competitive environment such as a Ferrari 458 Italia or Porsche 911 GT3 RS. But you need good brakes to be fast. Therefore, the Aachen-based company installed an 6 piston fixed calliper brake system with 400 x 38 mm large carbon-ceramic brake discs at the front and an 4 piston brake system with 380 x 28 mm large carbon ceramic discs at the rear.

In order to accommodate all of this, but of course also to adapt the aerodynamics, the exterior of the AC Schnitzer ACL2 was touched: It starts with the optimized front apron and front side wings on each side of the vehicle. At the rear there is a carbon rear diffuser and a sweeping carbon “racing” rear wing with a Gurney tear-off edge. The M4 axles are hidden under flared fenders, which have air outlet openings at the front and widen the vehicle by a total of 140 mm. The conclusion is formed by the special sports mirrors, which offer very little contact surface and are thus intended to keep turbulence in check.AC-Schnitzer-ACL2-Geneva-2016-Mein-Auto-Blog (2)

The interior is finished in a full BiColor leather interior that combines green, perforated nappa leather and black suede with green stitching. There are also interior trim strips in matt painted “Classic Racing Green” that match the exterior color and of course racing bucket seats that offer a grip like a vice. The final touch, in addition to many small and loving details, is the instrument cluster with a speedometer display up to 330 km/h. That's just about enough, as AC Schnitzer specifies the ACL2 with a top speed of 330 km/h. The little racer is supposed to reach 100 kilometers per hour in 3,9 seconds, but that doesn't seem particularly meaningful. Values from 100 to 200 km/h would be more interesting, as the grip level should be significantly higher here. That should be quite high with the 285 tires in 20-inch format, but 570 hp needs to be tamed.

If you are now attracted to this muscle man, you are welcome to beg from AC Schnitzer that the mechanics will build another ACL2. Unfortunately, it is a one-off at the price of just under 150.000 euros. At least so far.
