A road trip with the Mazda MX-5 RF through Norway. Is there anything more beautiful? Breathtaking fjord landscapes, the longest road tunnel in the world and an unforgettable interplay of elements. After the first tour 2015 from Munich to Nice was so successful, Mazda sent two more Auto Bild readers to experience this wonderful adventure. In four stages with altogether approx. 960 km from Bergen to Kristiansund the participants were able to face this genuine automotive adventure and experience all the advantages of the Mazda MX-5 RF.
Anyone who has not yet been to Norway cannot imagine the natural spectacle that awaited the participants. From soaring mountains to dramatic waterfalls to massive glaciers, the beauty of the southern Norwegian landscape was on full display. The participants particularly enjoyed the special highlight, the crossing of the Hardanger Bridge over the graceful Eidfjord. “It’s unbelievable that the Norwegians only built it for four and a half years,” one of the two marvels.
With the Mazda MX-5 RF it went into the curves of the specially selected route. An absolute celebration for all curve fans, because the Mazda MX-5 RF is on the road like a go-kart and looks so outrageously good. With its revving 160 PS strong 2.0-liter petrol engine, the 1120 Kilo lightweight two-seater is perfectly motorized. This fits the crisp six-speed manual and precise steering. This makes every curve in Norway even more fun. No wonder that hundreds of thousands of tourists rush onto this spectacular serpentine road each year. But most of them do not drive in one of the chic mazdas. Bad luck for them, luck for the two adventurers.
Eleven hairpin bends lead to a height of 620 meters and allow a great view over the Geirangerfjord. How good that the Mazda MX-5 RF is a convertible. Rooftop and enjoy the view is the motto. “Even though, as an old MX-5 driver, I actually love the purism of the roadster, I think the targa roof is great!” said one of the two drivers. An acrylic wind deflector behind the headrests keeps drafts at bay while driving. Cozy!
The Atlantic Road between Molde and Kristiansund is also worth seeing and is one of the most interesting routes in Norway. It is particularly impressive because of its characteristic Storseisund Bridge with a height of 23 meters. But what is it always called? You have to stop when it's best. But the participants were sure that these were not the last cornering adventures that they would chase in the Mazda MX-5 RF. “The MX-5 has grown up without losing its fun factor. And with this fantastic tour through Norway, we have climbed the next level of road trip with him.” What we would give to experience this feeling too!
