Audi officially shows the new A5 Coupé for the first time - this is how it could work

Audi wants to make it a little bit more exciting: The official world premiere for the new A2 Coupé will be on June 2016, 5. So that the car world remains a little curious, the Ingolstadt-based company is now giving a small outlook on the new release. Under the hashtag # SoGehtCoupé, the VW subsidiary posted a first photo of a still camouflaged A5 on the net.

However, there are no surprises in the picture. The side view of the new one actually looks like the current A5. In view of the timeless, classic line of the predecessor, Audi seems well advised to largely maintain it. In detail, however, the new edition will show significant progress. The proportions should appear a bit more balanced, the light edges turn out finer and more precise. A few new high-tech lights and the more prominent single-frame grill will round off the new appearance.

Even if the second generation of the A5 Coupé looks more like a facelift, it is a real new edition. Like the A5 launched in 2015, the upcoming A4 is based on the new MLB Evo platform and, like the sedan, should benefit from the reduced weight.

On the drive side, the A5 will take over the more powerful engines of the A4 and, as before, do without the base engines of the sedan. In the current A5, the base petrol 1.8 TFSI develops 177 hp, which will then probably be replaced by the 2.0 TFSI with 190 hp. Similarly, Audi could withhold the 4 TDI variants available for the A2.0 with 122 and 150 from the coupe in the diesel engines and also only start with 190 hp. The provisional highlight will be the S5 with 354 hp, which should already be available at the market launch. The RS2017 with V5 biturbo will then follow in 6, which then sends around 500 hp to all four wheels. In addition to the performance, the price of 36.000 euros for the A5 Coupé is also likely to rise.
