BMW M8 - More configuration options for the active driver

The new BMW M8 does not just want to convince with its PS. The drivers can now have much more say in how their vehicle should behave.

BMW is offering some extra delicacies for the M2019 high-performance sports coupé, which debuts at the end of 8. The M8 Coupé and Cabrio as well as the respective Competition models have a new display and operating system. In addition to the traditional configuration options for engine, chassis, steering, brake and all-wheel drive, the braking characteristics can be customized for the first time in just one operating step. This is made possible by the use of a new brake technology, which combines the functions of brake actuation, brake booster and brake control in a compact module. The feedback to the driver should neither be affected by road surface wetness nor by strong lateral acceleration and at any time ensure a precise metering of braking performance. The system is used in the M8 both in conjunction with the standard and with the optional carbon-ceramic brake system.

The displays adapt to the selected settings

Also new is the so-called M-mode. A button located on the center console can be used to influence driver assistance systems on the "Road" (road), "Sport" and "Track" (Competition) settings. Depending on the setting, the driver assistants, such as the active braking intervention, are activated or deactivated. In addition, the displays in the digital cockpit and in the head-up display adapt to the selected settings.

In the Track mode, all comfort and safety functions of the driver assistance systems are deactivated. In addition, the shutdown of the audio system and the control display, so that the driver can concentrate without distraction on the racetrack.

In autumn, the BMW M8 will celebrate its premiere. The 600 PS-strong vehicles will probably come to the dealer this year. Prices are not yet known by the manufacturer. The current top model, the M850i xDrive, costs at least 125.700 Euro as a coupe and 133.700 Euro as a convertible.
