Borgward strategy change - but no plant in Bremen

More than five decades after the Borgward bankruptcy, the revived car brand wanted to go back to Bremen. Nothing will come of it for now.

The Chinese automaker Borgward will not build a plant in Bremen after all. According to a report by the Weser Kurier, the reservation of the proposed location has expired, there are already other interested parties for the area at the freight transport center. According to the report, the reason for the cancellation is the takeover of Borgwards by the Chinese transport service provider Ucar half a year ago. This changed the company's strategy.

Borgward does not have a plant in Bremen

At the end of 2016, Borgward, then a subsidiary of the Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Foto, announced that it wanted to start up production in Bremen. This would have brought the brand back to its roots: the Borgward plants had produced cars and trucks in the Hanseatic city between 1939 and bankruptcy in 1963. In 2015, the brand was revived with Chinese money.
