The electrically powered variants of the SmartModels will be launched at the end of 2016. That explained Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche at the IAA. In addition to the two-seater Smart and its convertible counterpart, the Smart Forfour will also be equipped with an electric motor for the first time. The power drive comes from the cooperation partner Renault Nissan. Smart uses the engine of the Renault Zoe with 65 kW / 88 HP. The production of the previous Smart Electric Drive was recently discontinued. It was still based on the previous platform.
