The large station wagon from France can impress with its perfect suspension, drives a brilliantly large boot through the area and does not play with the 164 PS strong diesel not the very small number on the highway.

It is above all a question of image - even today.

The prejudices of the company car and family owner against a Frenchman are manifold. In the case of the C5, there is also the question of the durability of the hydro-pneumatic suspension. For this I can not say anything after 14 days, but about the quality in the interior.

Nothing rattles - and nothing rattles.

If it is up to my prejudices, it is of course surprising at first - but the C5 test car was modeled well and offered no criticism in terms of quality and feel in the interior.

Advantages:

• Lots of space in the interior

Disadvantages:

The consumption:

• Everyday driver without savings: 7.1 liter on 100 KM
• Eco-expert with a green toe: 5.6 liters per 100 km
• Field service with full throttle desire: 8.8 liter on 100 KM

That was perfect:

• The suspension comfort
• The quiet and powerful engine
• The fine equipment details

I missed that:

• A better automatic. There is room for rework here.

Driving report Citroën C5 Tourer - the conclusion:

The big estate car from Citroën only partly fulfills the prejudices that I have, I think of French automobiles and the lifestyle of our neighbors to the west.

The steering wheel with its fixed hub and the steering wheel rim that only turns around it, for example, is so typically unconventional for me and therefore also typically Citroën. However, I found the processing quality and the choice of materials in the interior to be completely atypical. I didn't want any impression of "Laissez-faire" and also for the “contact parking” as practiced in Paris, the C5 just seems to be a shame.

Just too outrageously good for that - the suspension comfort of the C5 with hydropneumatics. It remains to be seen how Citroën will shape the future of the large station wagon, since at the beginning of the year the upper-class sedan C6 had been quietly removed from our market. The C5 should be spared this fate - then we can only hope that Citroën will continue to work on the strengths of the C5 and eliminate the small weaknesses (e.g. the less comfortable automatic transmission).

A good reason not to consider the C5 Tourer HDi 165 when choosing the next service or family suit, I could not find.

The C5 is much more of an insider tip for people who prefer mink to the inside and think of France not just for frivolous Parisian nightlife, slugs on the menu and bad cars!
