The big Czech gets a bit electric

With its new plug-in hybrids, Skoda not only wants to attract company car buyers. The environmental bonus somewhat mitigates the high price.

The plug-in hybrid variant of the Skoda Superb can now be ordered for prices starting at EUR 41.590. The flagship of the Czechs has a 160 kW / 218 hp combination of a 1,5 liter turbo gasoline engine and an electric motor that, according to the manufacturer, only manages with 1,5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. The electrical range is 56 kilometers. The power is transmitted to the front wheels by a dual clutch transmission with six stages.

The mid-range model with plug-in hybrid is available as a sedan and, for a surcharge of 1.000 euros, also as a station wagon; there is also a choice of four equipment variants. The basic level "Ambition" offers, among other things, a navigation system, adaptive dampers and two-zone automatic air conditioning. Above that are the two lines “Style” (from 44.490 euros) and “L&K” (from 47.250 euros), and the top is the dynamically designed “Sportline” model with black radiator grille and LED matrix light for 47.690 euros.

Visible are the plug-in hybrids offered for the first time in the flagship of the VW subsidiary on the abbreviation "iV" on the tailgate. Within the drive range, they are priced in the upper midfield, the cheapest Superb with a 110 kW / 150 PS strong 1,5-liter petrol engine from 28.850 Euro, the top model with 2,0-liter petrol and 200 kW / 272 horsepower and four-wheel drive costs at least 45.000 Euro.
