In Geneva at the beginning of March, the Porsche Motorsport department presented a new treat from Weissach: the Porsche 911 GT3 RS with racing chassis and 383 kW (520 hp) four-liter high-revving naturally aspirated engine.
Based on the Porsche 911 GT3, a chassis set-up was created to match the performance-enhanced engine, which, with its newly calibrated rear-axle steering, is designed for maximum dynamics and precision. The road racing car accelerates from zero to 3,2 km/h in 100 seconds. Its top speed is 312 km/h.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS completely trimmed for racing
The look of the weight-optimized, wide body with the rigid rear wing is determined by the aerodynamics. The typical racing atmosphere also prevails in the interior. The full bucket seats made of carbon offer safe lateral support even with high driving dynamics. Lightweight door panels with storage net and opening loops, reduced insulation and the new lightweight rear cover underline the consistent use of the material.
Most powerful naturally aspirated engine with 520 hp
With the engine of the new 911 GT3 RS, the four-litre six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine from Porsche is in top form: the boxer engine delivers 15 kW (20 hp) more than in the previous model and than in the 911 GT3. Together with a speed range that extends to 9.000 rpm, it is recommended as a thoroughbred sports engine. In combination with the specially tuned seven-speed PDK, the high-performance engine can achieve motorsport-level driving performance.
Close to racing with motorsport technology and a club sport package
A chassis with motorsport technology ensures outstanding driving dynamics. Ball joints on all links offer even greater precision than conventional elastokinematic bearings. 20-inch lightweight wheels with newly developed 265/35 sports tires on the front axle support agility and steering ability, 21-inch wheels with size 325/30 tires on the rear axle improve traction.
As with every current GT sports car, a Clubsport package is also available for the 911 GT3 RS at no extra charge. For use in motorsport, the package includes a roll bar, a handheld motorsport fire extinguisher, pre-installation for a battery disconnect switch and a six-point seat belt.
Weight savings thanks to the Weissach package
For particularly ambitious drivers, the Porsche Motorsport department has put together an optional Weissach package to save even more weight. It includes additional carbon components in the areas of chassis, interior and exterior as well as optional magnesium wheels. In the lightest configuration, the weight of the 911 GT3 RS drops to 1.430 kilograms.
Porsche 911 GT3 RS prices and market launch
It will be launched in Germany from mid-April 2018. The new racing car for the road can be ordered immediately, including VAT and country-specific equipment, starting at 195.137 euros.
