In 2020, electromobility will finally leave its niche. A study now expects a double-digit market share for the year as a whole.
The electric car market is growing faster than expected. The Center of Automotive Management in Bergisch Gladbach (CAM) has increased its annual forecast for 2020 from 250.000 to 300.000 new registrations. According to the researchers, the combined market share of pure e-mobiles and plug-in hybrids will be double-digit for the first time at 10,7 percent.
In the current year, around 204.000 new electric cars have rolled out onto the streets in Germany - almost five times as many as in the same period last year. With 2,04 million new registrations in the same period, the overall market shrank by around 25,5 percent. For 2020, the CAM expects 2,8 million new registrations, which would correspond to a decrease of 19 percent.
