E-car world market

E-cars are not only in demand in this country. The boom is also continuing in China. Large parts of the world have already been left behind.

New registrations of electric cars worldwide in the first quarter of 2021 have already exceeded the level of the entire previous year. According to the consulting agency Jato, around 750.000 all-electric cars rolled onto the streets of the 47 largest global markets between January and the end of March. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 142 percent.

Around 95 percent of the approvals are concentrated in three regions. China alone accounted for around 400.000 vehicles and a share of 53 percent in the first quarter. Europe came to 212.000 units, the USA and Canada to 115.000. In large parts of the world, however, e-cars still hardly play a role.

The largest manufacturer was again Tesla with a market share of 25 percent. Compared to the same period of the previous year, however, the Californians have lost some of their dominance and lost 6 percentage points. Also because the competition is growing and getting stronger: Chinese manufacturers in particular grew and increased their market share from 24 to 44 percent. The VW Group has also established itself in the growing market, but compared to the previous year the share of Wolfsburg-based companies fell from 11 to 8 percent.
